10 Tips to Make the Most of Your Wedding Planning Time

Planning your wedding is an exciting adventure, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. With countless decisions to make, it’s easy to feel like there’s never enough time. However, with a bit of strategy and organisation, you can make the most of your wedding planning journey and create the day of your dreams without unnecessary stress. Here’s how to stay on top of your planning and truly enjoy the process. I mean, WE ONLY DOING THIS ONCE!

1. Set Priorities Early On

Before diving into the details, sit down with your partner to discuss your priorities. What aspects of the wedding are most important to you? Whether it’s the venue, photography, food, or entertainment, identifying your must-haves early on will help you allocate time and budget accordingly.

2. Create a Timeline and Stick to It

A well-thought-out timeline is your best friend during wedding planning. Start with your wedding date and work backward, setting deadlines for booking vendors, sending invitations, and other key tasks. Use tools like wedding planning apps, spreadsheets, or a dedicated notebook to keep everything organised.

Pro Tip: Aim to book high-demand vendors like your venue, photographer, and make up artist as soon as possible. These professionals often book up months (or even years) in advance.

3. Set a Realistic Budget

Your budget will guide many of your decisions, so it’s crucial to establish it early. Sit down with your partner and any family members possibly contributing financially to determine how much you have to work with. Break down your budget by category (venue, attire, photography, etc.) and track your spending to avoid surprises later.

4. Build a Dream Team of Vendors

Choosing the right vendors can make all the difference in your wedding experience. Take the time to research and meet with professionals whose work resonates with your vision. Trust their expertise—they’ve done this before and can offer valuable advice to make your day seamless.

5. Delegate Tasks

You don’t have to do it all yourself. Lean on your partner, bridal party, and family to help with tasks. Whether it’s assembling invitations, running errands, drying flowers for confetti or researching vendors, delegating responsibilities can save you time and reduce stress during wedding planning season.

6. Stay Organised

Wedding planning involves a lot of moving pieces, so keeping everything organised is key. Use a digital tool like Google Drive or a wedding app to store contracts, invoices, and notes. Having everything in one place makes it easier to stay on top of deadlines and communicate with vendors.

7. Schedule “Wedding-Free” Time

It’s easy to let wedding planning take over your life, but it’s important to carve out time to relax and reconnect with your partner. Set aside regular “wedding-free” nights to enjoy each other’s company without discussing guest lists or colour schemes.

8. Stay Flexible

Even the best-laid plans can encounter hiccups. Whether it’s a vendor cancellation or unpredictable weather, staying flexible will help you navigate challenges with grace. Focus on the big picture: marrying the love of your life.

9. Make Time for Self-Care

Wedding planning can be stressful, so don’t forget to take care of yourself. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and moments of relaxation can help you stay grounded. Consider scheduling spa days, yoga classes, or even just a quiet evening with a good book to recharge.

10. Enjoy the Process

Remember, your wedding is a celebration of your love. The planning process should be a joyful experience that reflects your unique relationship. Embrace the little moments, from cake tastings to venue visits, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

Final Thoughts

Wedding planning doesn’t have to be overwhelming. By staying organised, setting priorities, and remembering to enjoy the journey, you can make the most of your planning time and create a day that’s truly unforgettable. AND don’t forget when you open those curtains on your wedding day, you just roll with it. If the cake arrives and its three tiers instead of five, forget about it, nobody knows that the cake was meant to be five tiers and now everyone is in tears, laugh it off. Enjoy the taste and dance the night away. Something will go wrong on your wedding, I have seen it all from what feels like a flood to wrong chairs, the cake falling on the floor, parents getting a divorce the Wednesday before a wedding day and a bridesmaid being fired the day before the wedding. But we still had a banging day!

As a wedding photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how thoughtful planning can lead to a seamless and joyous celebration. If you’re looking for someone to capture the magic of your big day, I’d love to be part of your wedding journey.
