A PHOTOGRAPHER’S VENUE GUIDE
FOREST
HALL ESTATE
Forest Hall Estate is the oldest manor house in the Plettenberg Bay region, built in 1864 by the Newdigate family in The Crags, hosting exclusive-use weekend weddings of up to 120 day guests with 30 sleeping on the estate.

WHY COUPLES CHOOSE IT
Why couples choose Forest Hall
Forest Hall is 160 years of story wrapped in gardens and forest, and you feel it the moment the manor comes into view. I’ve photographed three weddings here and each used the estate differently, garden ceremony, forest vows, long lawns to the sea light, because exclusive use means the place bends entirely to the couple.
The minimum two-day rental turns weddings into house parties in the best sense: thirty of your people sleeping in the manor and cottages, breakfast on the lawn the morning after.

THROUGH SHARYN’S LENS
Photographing a wedding at Forest Hall
Three weddings in, my Forest Hall ritual is fixed: the manor facade in late warm light (those 1864 proportions deserve it), the forest edge for dappled couple portraits, and the lawns when the sea haze turns the distance silver-blue. The estate’s age gives every detail shot texture, floors, doors, gardens that have been growing for a century and a half.
Because you have the estate for the weekend, coverage can breathe, golden hour isn’t a race here, it’s a stroll.
PLANNING AROUND THE LIGHT
A timeline shaped around your date.
Sunrise and sunset shift throughout the year, so there is no single perfect ceremony time at Forest Hall. I build each timeline around the sunset time on your actual date, the ceremony space, the weather and the manor’s evening glow and the forest’s dappled edge.
MAR TO SEP
March – September
The sun sits lower and golden light arrives earlier in the afternoon. The facade catches warm light from mid-afternoon and the forest stays soft all day, earlier ceremonies protect a long, unhurried portrait walk.
OCT TO FEB
October – February
Days run long and the light stays strong late. Long evenings suit later garden ceremonies, with the sea-view lawns holding light until dinner is well underway.
YOUR DATE
Your personal timeline
Once your date is confirmed, I work backwards from sunset and create a photography timeline around your ceremony, portraits and reception, with enough flexibility for weather and the unplanned moments that make the day yours.
THE RHYTHM
The shape of the day
Getting ready → Ceremony → Family photographs → Golden-hour portraits → Dinner & dancing

NEED TO KNOW
Before you book.
A photographer’s answers to the questions couples ask most often about Forest Hall Estate. Venue details and packages can change, so confirm the final information directly.
Up to 120 day guests, with 30 sleeping across the manor and cottages, always on an exclusive-use basis with a two-day minimum.
No, you bring caterers (the estate has a large catering kitchen, live-in cook and arrangeable chef/waitstaff), which lets couples shape the food entirely.
Built in 1864, it’s the first manor house of the Plettenberg Bay stretch, home of the Newdigate family, and the region’s most storied wedding setting.
The manor’s interiors hold the day with character to spare, old rooms, fireplaces and windows that photograph like paintings.
ALREADY IMAGINING IT?
Getting married at Forest Hall?
Three weddings at this manor and I still find new corners of light. If Forest Hall’s 160 years are hosting your weekend, I’d love to photograph it.
