WHY COUPLES CHOOSE IT
Why couples choose Gondwana
A Gondwana wedding is the only one on the Garden Route where your ceremony backdrop might wander into frame. Free-roaming Big 5 on fynbos hills ringed by the Langeberg, it’s the safari-wedding dream, twenty-five minutes from Mossel Bay rather than a flight to the bushveld. Lee-Ann & Annalise’s day here gave me elephant-on-the-horizon frames I still show every couple who asks about safari weddings.
The reserve runs weddings as weekends: game drives for guests, boma dinners under stars, and the infinity pool doing golden-hour duty between events.

THROUGH SHARYN’S LENS
Photographing a wedding at Gondwana
Safari light is its own discipline. Game country goes gold twice a day, and animals move at dawn and dusk, so I build Gondwana timelines around a sundowner game-drive portrait session: couple, open vehicle, fynbos ridges, and whatever the reserve decides to show us. It’s the shoot no winelands venue can offer.
The Tamboti tree ceremony sits in open country, so I watch the sun’s angle on your date and set the arc accordingly; the waterhole and infinity pool give evening reflections; and the boma firelight ends the gallery warm.
PLANNING AROUND THE LIGHT
A timeline shaped around your date.
Sunrise and sunset shift throughout the year, so there is no single perfect ceremony time at Gondwana. I build each timeline around the sunset time on your actual date, the ceremony space, the weather and game-country light and the animals’ own golden hours.
MAR TO SEP
March – September
The sun sits lower and golden light arrives earlier in the afternoon. Winter light is clean and low all afternoon and game moves earlier, ceremonies sit earlier, and the sundowner drive lands in perfect colour.
OCT TO FEB
October – February
Days run long and the light stays strong late. Summer heat pushes everything later, later ceremonies spare guests the glare, and the evening drive rolls straight into golden hour.
YOUR DATE
Your personal timeline
Once your date is confirmed, I work backwards from sunset and create a photography timeline around your ceremony, portraits and reception, with enough flexibility for weather and the unplanned moments that make the day yours.

NEED TO KNOW
Before you book.
A photographer’s answers to the questions couples ask most often about Gondwana Game Reserve. Venue details and packages can change, so confirm the final information directly.
Up to about 100 seated or 200 cocktail-style across the lodge venues, with suites and villas keeping the party on the reserve.
The reserve is free-roaming Big 5, so game on the horizon is common, and the sundowner game-drive portrait session is the signature shoot here.
Yes, about 25 minutes inland from Mossel Bay, which makes it the accessible safari wedding: no charter flights, no malaria zone.
Lodge interiors and covered decks hold the day, and stormy light over fynbos hills photographs magnificently.
ALREADY IMAGINING IT?
Getting married at Gondwana?
I’ve photographed a Gondwana wedding weekend, game drive and all, if you’re dreaming of vows with the Big 5 on the horizon, I know exactly how that day should run.
