Capturing moments for Ben and Jules from the South African band GoodLuck has always been a joy, but their recent maternity shoot at Robberg Nature Reserve was something truly special. Having known Ben and Jules for many years and having photographed them several times, including during their iconic Get Lucky Summer gigs in Plettenberg Bay, it was an incredible honour to document this next chapter in their lives.
Robberg Nature Reserve has always been one of my favourite locations, and it was the perfect spot for Ben and Jules’ maternity shoot. As the sun began to set, the entire reserve was bathed in warm, golden light, creating a breathtaking backdrop for this intimate session. The combination of the dramatic landscape and the gentle sunset set the stage for some truly magical moments.
Ben and Jules brought along a few special items that made the shoot even more personal and meaningful. They had adorable little baby booties, a sonogram of their soon-to-arrive daughter, and of course, their signature GoodLuck caps. These items not only added a touch of their personality to the session but also served as beautiful symbols of the exciting journey ahead.
Throughout the shoot, it was evident how excited they were to welcome their baby girl into the world. The joy and anticipation in their eyes were unmistakable, and it was heartwarming to see them so full of love and happiness. As we chatted and caught up, it was clear that this was a moment they had been eagerly awaiting.
A fun fact that not many people knew—until now—is that Ben and Jules had been dating for some time, but they chose to keep their relationship private. They didn’t want their fans to know, so it was a huge surprise when they announced that they were expecting a baby. This shoot, in many ways, was a celebration of their love story and the new life they were about to bring into the world.
It was a privilege to be part of this special moment, capturing the love and connection between Ben and Jules as they prepared to become parents. The images from this session are a beautiful reflection of their journey together, and I’m honored to have been there to document it.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a final glow over the landscape, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to capture such a significant moment for two people who have brought so much joy to others through their music. This maternity shoot at Robberg Nature Reserve was not just a celebration of new life, but also of the love that Ben and Jules share—a love that they’ve now shared with the world.
