Gypsy & Robbie’s Iceland Midnight Sun Elopement
Sometimes Iceland actually decides to behave.
No sideways rain. No gale-force winds. No completely rearranging our plans.
For Gypsy and Robbie’s summer elopement in Iceland, we somehow scored AMAZING weather.
Okay, the clouds weren’t exactly helping us achieve our dream of that glowing Icelandic midnight sun…
But it wasn’t raining.
WE WILL TAKE IT.
Gypsy and Robbie are a fun-loving Australian couple travelling around Iceland by campervan, and honestly, these two were absolute legends. Relaxed, adventurous and up for anything, exactly the kind of people Iceland was made for.
Black Beaches, Horses & a Late-Night Adventure
We started our elopement adventure late in the evening on the quieter black beach near Vík.
One of the things I love most about an Iceland summer elopement is just how long the days are. During the midnight sun season, you can photograph late into the evening with beautiful soft light and far fewer people around.
And then Iceland gave us a little bonus.
Horses came wandering past while we were photographing on the beach.
Because apparently the scenery wasn’t already Icelandic enough.
Vík Church & Fields of Lupines
From the beach, we headed towards the beautiful Vík í Mýrdal Church, sitting high above the little town.
The surrounding lupines were in bloom, so naturally we made the most of them.
Purple flowers, mountains, the little white-and-red church and two Australians laughing their way through Iceland, YES PLEASE!
From there, we continued to the famous Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach, with its towering basalt columns, enormous cliffs and dramatic Atlantic coastline.
Private Vows Beneath Skógafoss
Our next adventure took us to Skógafoss.
And once again…
Only two people.
This is exactly why I love photographing Iceland elopements at ridiculous hours.
Gypsy and Robbie found a quiet spot amongst the lupine fields with Skógafoss behind them and exchanged their private vows.
No audience. No distractions.
Just the two of them, surrounded by Iceland.
It was simple, personal and absolutely beautiful.
Kvernufoss Completely Alone
Next came Kvernufoss, and somehow we had this incredible waterfall ALL TO OURSELVES.
We wandered through the canyon, photographed beneath the waterfall and simply let Gypsy and Robbie enjoy the experience.
This is what an adventure elopement in Iceland should feel like.
Not rushing between locations ticking boxes.
Just exploring, laughing and seeing where the evening takes us.
Chasing an Iceland Midnight Sun
For our final stop, we headed towards Seljalandsfoss to try our luck at catching some sunset colour.
The clouds weren’t quite ready to give us the full blazing Icelandic midnight sun we’d hoped for, but after an evening like this, did it really matter?
Absolutely not.
We had black beaches, Icelandic horses, fields of purple lupines, private vows, waterfalls completely to ourselves and hours of laughter.
Gypsy and Robbie’s Iceland midnight sun elopement was everything I love about summer in Iceland.
Long days. Late night adventures. Fewer crowds.
And two absolute legends travelling around Iceland in their campervan, doing things completely their own way.
I’d take that over perfect weather any day.
Although Iceland…
Thanks for not raining this time.
Until we meet again,
S
What Gypsy and Robbie said on Google (*****)
We eloped in Iceland in June of 2026 and hired Sharyn to take some photos of us at some of Iceland’s iconic landscapes. From the get go Sharyn’s communication was excellent and her enthusiasm was palpable. On the day we found Sharyn (and Tez) absolutely amazing to work with. They gave excellent cues and tips and everything ran very smoothly. They are both so genuine and kind and really elevated our experience. We are absolutely in love with our elopement photos and videos. Thank you Sharyn and Tez for the amazing part you played in our special day.
Planning a South Coast Iceland Elopement
This is exactly why I love photographing elopements in Iceland.
You don’t need perfect weather. You don’t need blue skies. And you definitely don’t need everything to go according to plan.
An Iceland elopement can mean standing alone on Reynisfjara before most people have even woken up, exploring a hidden waterfall canyon and finishing your day absolutely drenched beneath Skógafoss. This is Iceland, it’s RAW, CRAZY, UNPREDICTABLE and yet breathtakingly STUNNING! This landscape will blow your mind!
For couples looking for an adventurous Iceland elopement photographer, the South Coast offers some of the most spectacular landscapes in the country, all within one incredible adventure.
