Nothing beats an Iceland wedding day, unless that wedding day starts inside an ice cave.
When Jasmine and Aiden first reached out from the UK, I knew this one was going to be something special. They wanted adventure, incredible landscapes, and to share it all with the people who mean the most to them. And honestly? They absolutely nailed it.
With eight of their closest friends by their side, we met up for what can only be described as one of the most unique ceremonies I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing.
Our day began with a private ice cave tour with the incredible team at Troll. Deep inside the Katla Ice Cave, surrounded by ancient blue ice, one of Jasmine and Aiden’s closest friends led the ceremony. It was intimate, emotional and unlike anything you could ever recreate in a traditional wedding venue. Standing together beneath layers of volcanic ice, with their favourite people witnessing every moment, it was the perfect way to begin their marriage.
Once the celebrations inside the cave were over, we said goodbye to their friends for a little while and headed off to explore Iceland together.
First stop was Reynisfjara black sand beach, where the moody skies and endless coastline reminded us exactly why Iceland is one of the most incredible places on earth to get married. From there we made our way to Dyrhólaey and the lighthouse, where the dramatic cliffs, crashing waves and panoramic views never fail to take my breath away.
Next up was Kvernufoss, one of my absolute favourite waterfalls in Iceland. As if the day couldn’t get any better, we were greeted by two beautiful Icelandic horses who wandered over to say hello. It was one of those completely unexpected moments that makes an Iceland adventure feel even more magical, and of course we had to capture a few photographs with them.
To finish off the adventure, we headed to the mighty Skógafoss.
Now, if you’ve ever been to Skógafoss, you’ll know there are only two types of people; those who try to stay dry, and those who accept defeat within about thirty seconds.
Needless to say, we were definitely the second group.
We were absolutely SOAKED from head to toe, laughing the entire time as the waterfall spray covered us with every step closer we took. Those are honestly some of my favourite moments to photograph. No one is worrying about posing anymore. You’re simply living in the moment, embracing the adventure, and making memories you’ll laugh about for years to come.
After drying off (well, trying to), we reunited with all of their friends and celebrated the best way possible, over an incredible dinner together at Wok in Vík. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable day filled with adventure, laughter, incredible friendships and one very, very wet waterfall.
Jasmine and Aiden, thank you for trusting me to capture one of the biggest adventures of your lives. From saying your vows beneath ancient ice to getting completely drenched beneath Skógafoss, your wedding day was everything an Iceland adventure should be.
I wish you both a lifetime of adventures together, and I hope Iceland will always hold a very special place in your hearts.
