Magical sunrise maternity shoot on Keurboomstrand Beach
One of the greatest privileges of being a photographer is watching love stories grow.
Not just photographing the proposal or the wedding day, but being invited back time and time again as new chapters unfold.
Kiara and Enzo are one of those couples who have become such a special part of my journey.
Over the years, I’ve had the honour of photographing their surprise engagement, their engagement session and so many milestones along the way. I’ve photographed Enzo’s sister’s surprise proposal, her wedding, family sessions and so many moments that have become part of their family’s story. Every time they ask me to capture another chapter, I honestly feel incredibly grateful.
So when they told me they were expecting a little one and wanted me to photograph their maternity session, there wasn’t a chance I was saying no.
As with most December shoots in Plettenberg Bay, the alarm clock went off painfully early, but every sleepy morning is worth it when Keurboomstrand decides to put on a show.
And it certainly did.
The sky was painted with the most beautiful shades of pink as the sun slowly climbed above the horizon, creating the perfect backdrop for a morning filled with laughter, happy tears and so much excitement for what lies ahead.
The whole shoot felt effortless.
There were outfit changes, lots of laughs, plenty of walking along the shoreline and one of my favourite little details, matching caps that simply read “Mom”, “Dad” and “Mini.”
It honestly couldn’t have been any cuter.
Of course, not everything went according to plan.
We had the lovely idea of writing “May” in the sand to celebrate their little one’s arrival month.
The ocean had other ideas.
Every time we finished writing it, another wave would roll in and wash it away before we could photograph it. We couldn’t help but laugh every single time, and in the end, those imperfect little moments became some of my favourites from the morning.
Because that’s life.
It’s unpredictable, beautifully messy and often even better than the plan you started with.
Kiara and Enzo, thank you for trusting me once again to tell another chapter of your story. It has been such a privilege watching your lives grow over the years, and I genuinely don’t take that trust for granted.
I already know your little one is going to be surrounded by so much love, laughter and adventure.
I can’t wait to meet them.
