Sunrise shoots always hold a special place in my heart, and Kirsty and Gavin’s maternity session at Keurboomstrand was no exception. Taking place in December, when the sun rises at a crisp 05h05, this shoot was a testament to their dedication and excitement for welcoming their little one.
The day began early, with the sun just beginning to peek over the ocean. Kirsty and Gavin were already there, ready and waiting, which immediately set the tone for a fantastic session. Despite the early hour, their energy was contagious, and it was clear that they were fully committed to capturing this beautiful moment in their lives.
As the sun began to rise, we were treated to a mix of cloudy skies and bursts of sunlight. This combination created the kind of soft, ethereal light that I absolutely love to work with. The clouds acted as a natural diffuser, giving us that perfect glow while still allowing for some dramatic, golden light to break through at just the right moments. It was one of those mornings where everything seemed to align perfectly.
Kirsty didn’t hold back when it came to outfit choices. I’ve never seen anyone bring so many amazing outfits to a shoot! Each one added a unique element to the session, showcasing her personality and style. Whether it was a flowing dress that caught the morning breeze just right or a more casual ensemble that reflected their down-to-earth vibe, every outfit choice contributed to the magic of the shoot.
Gavin, too, brought his own style and energy, making the entire experience feel like a fun collaboration. The way they complemented each other, both in their outfits and their interactions, made for some truly stunning images.
What I loved most about this shoot was how much fun Kirsty and Gavin were. They were up for anything, whether it was walking along the shoreline, playing in the sand, getting completely soaked for the shot or simply enjoying the peacefulness of the morning. Their willingness to embrace the moment, combined with their playful energy, made for a session full of laughter and joy.
From the first click of the shutter to the final shot, every moment with Kirsty and Gavin was a reminder of why I love what I do. They brought so much warmth and excitement to the shoot, and it was an absolute pleasure to capture these moments as they prepare for the arrival of their little one.
As the session came to an end and the sun climbed higher into the sky, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to be part of this special time in their lives. Kirsty and Gavin’s sunrise maternity shoot at Keurboomstrand was a beautiful celebration of new beginnings, and I’m thrilled to have been there to document it.
