A PHOTOGRAPHER’S LOCAL VENUE GUIDE
Knysna Wedding Venues: A Photographer's Complete Guide
By Sharyn Hodges, Junebug winner, 300+ weddings · Last updated: July 2026 · Lagoon, forest & clifftop venues
FROM BEHIND THE LENS
The region, read through its light.
Knysna’s wedding venues wrap around its famous lagoon, from Villa Castollini’s Italian terrace above Brenton and Featherbed’s ferry-access nature reserve to Pezula’s clifftop resort on the East Head. This guide covers the town’s venues from a photographer who shoots them year-round.
Knysna’s venues are shaped by its geography: the lagoon, the two Heads, the forest and the hills between. I photograph here constantly, it’s thirty minutes from my Plett base, and the town’s venues are all below in one list, with badges on the ones I’ve photographed weddings at.

SHARYN’S HONEST NOTES
How to choose (a photographer’s honest advice)
01
Pick the light before the linen. Ask where the sun sets relative to the ceremony spot on YOUR date, I plan every timeline backwards from sunset, and some venues make that easy while others fight it.
02
Interrogate the wet-weather plan, not whether one exists, but whether you’d be happy if it happened. Glass venues (Kay & Monty) and character interiors (Emily Moon) turn rain into a feature.
03
Count the real capacity, seated with a dance floor, not cocktail-style. Then subtract 10% for comfort.
04
Sleep-on-site changes everything: venues with accommodation turn a wedding into a weekend and photograph calmer mornings.
05
Book 12 to 18 months out for peak-season Saturdays (October to April), venues and photographers fill on the same timeline.
PLANNING ANSWERS
Questions couples ask before they choose.
Villa Castollini’s lagoon panorama and Pezula’s clifftop ocean views are the two heavyweights, different moods, both spectacular. Simola offers the river-valley alternative.
Yes, Featherbed hosts ceremonies on its private lagoon beach (ferry access only), and Belvidere Manor sits right on the western shore.
Portland Manor’s open-air forest chapel at Rheenendal is the standout; Featherbed’s milkwood forest reception and Bella Manga’s bush chapel (toward Plett) complete the set.
About 30 minutes, many couples mix the towns: a Knysna venue with Plett beach portraits, or vice versa. As a photographer I cover both as home turf.
