Lisa & Josh | Black Forest Wedding | Bad Wilbad

October 10, 2019

Josh to Lisa – Even though I complain that sometimes I live with a golden retriever, there is nobody else’s hair i’d clean out of the drain, than yours.

I can’t describe the feeling you get when a friend asks you to shoot their wedding. It’s a mixture of emotions including pride (that they believe and trust in your ability) and excitement that you actually get to share these two beautiful humans most important day of their relationship. But Josh and Lisa threw in a little something something… GERMANY! Yes their day would be in Lisa’s home town of Bad Wildbad in the Black Forest. I literally died. This is what photography dreams are made of.

I got to spend the week in Germany, hiking on trails, getting lost in forests, amazed by lakes, climbed over suspension bridges, mesmerised by castles and ate my way through all the pretzels till their wedding.

Josh & Lisa shared their first of two ceremonies amongst nearest and dearest in a civil service, I have never seen such a beautiful “magistrates court” in my life. There I was thinking this could be a wedding venue in itself. But they saved the best for the next day.

Josh and Lisa decided to do a vows reading and first look before their wedding and I found myself wiping tears away as they declared their love for each other, but I don’t think I could match Lisa. Lisi, you confused me as I wasn’t sure if I was crying because you were or because the vows, the day or the moments. THANK YOU! Thank you for being so openly vulnerable and still going on even when I was in your space.

After their vows exchange we headed to the cutest stone church in Bad Wildbad, Englische Kirche. I loved everything about this ceremony, Josh said his vows in German and Lisa said hers in English. More tears. Bubbles guns lined their way for the confetti toss only for them to find themselves sawing through a piece of wood, a German tradition with the analogy of working together to get through the wood. I frikken loved it! They passed their first test!

Driving a beautiful and scenic route to their reception, we stopped off to capture a few moments in the forest. The weather in this region is so unpredictable, it was so hot during the day and then the next minute we experienced wind and rain, only for it to stop again, where we quickly ran outside to get a few more photos in the ferns.

Josh and Lisa, I really don’t know how to thank you both for being so amazing and trusting me with your wedding day photos, I am lost for words. Thank you for including me where ever possible, helping me with my travel itinerary and being patient with your wedding photos. I really can’t wait to see what your future holds, just know you have a fan screaming from the sidelines, ill even add pompoms!
