Dunseverick Castle Elopement

There is not greater honour when a fellow wedding photographer asks you to be her wedding photographer! And what a freaking day it was!

When Andre and Nicole decided to elope, they chose the rugged beauty of Ireland’s northern coast as the backdrop for their special day. Hailing from South Africa, the couple was drawn to the mystique of Dunseverick Castle and the wild charm of the surrounding landscape. Their intimate elopement, with only four guests, was a day filled with emotion, adventure, and a touch of Irish magic.

Our day began at the ancient ruins of Dunseverick Castle, a location steeped in history and dramatic beauty. Perched on the edge of a cliff overlooking the North Atlantic, the castle provided a breathtaking setting for Andre and Nicole’s vows. Nicole was a vision in her stunning dress, which seemed to flow effortlessly with the breeze. The delicate fabric and intricate design complemented the natural beauty of the surroundings, making her look like she had stepped out of a fairy tale. Andre, looking equally handsome in his suit, stood by her side, the perfect match for such an incredible setting.

As the couple stood together, surrounded by their closest friends and the ruins of the castle, the sun made a brief and unexpected appearance. It was as if the universe was giving its blessing to their union, casting a warm, golden light on the scene. The moment was fleeting, though, as the clouds soon rolled back in, reminding us of the wild and untamed nature of this place.

With the ceremony complete, we set off on an adventure to capture more memories of this incredible day. Our first stop was the Wishing Arch, a natural formation (that looks like an elephant, just a bit of South Africa I think) that holds its own legend. It’s said that those who walk through the arch can make a wish that will come true.

Next, we headed to White Rocks Beach, a place of striking contrasts with its pale sands and dark, craggy cliffs. The wind had picked up by this point, adding a sense of wild freedom to the shoot. Andre and Nicole didn’t hesitate—we ran along the beach, laughing and shouting, “go again”. And the beach goers congratulations in Irish is one of my favourite memories. It was now time to get into the car and take a quick (and maybe fast) journey to our final location. The Giant’s Causeway!

The wind, though strong, only added to the experience. It whipped Nicole’s hair around her face, creating moments of untamed beauty that I was thrilled to capture. I honestly dont know how Nicole could handle the cold in her dress! But the connection between Andre and Nicole was undeniable, and it was clear that this was a couple who thrived on adventure.

Our final destination was the iconic Giant’s Causeway, a place of legend and natural wonder. As we arrived, the sky had grown darker, the clouds thickening and the wind howling across the hexagonal stones. But Andre and Nicole were undeterred. They took out the lanterns that I had brought along, a nod to the idea of guiding each other through life, even in the darkest moments.

The scene was both dramatic and romantic as they explored the Causeway, the lanterns casting a soft glow against the ancient stones. The wind tugged at their clothes and the clouds loomed overhead, but there was a sense of peace in the air—a feeling that, despite the elements, they were exactly where they were meant to be.

As the shoot came to an end, we all gathered for dinner at the guest house where everyone was staying. The warmth of the cozy dining room was a welcome contrast to the windswept day we had experienced, and the conversation was all about the BANGERS we had just created! I honestly couldn’t believe the day we had had! The meal was delicious and intimate, with just the eight of us sharing stories and laughter late into the same hours of the morning, with only a few hours of sleep for myself and Tez as we needed to catch a plane to Iceland for the next elopement!

One fun detail about Andre and Nicole’s elopement was that they had planned the timing around Taylor Swift’s concert in Ireland. I mean, it is Tay Tay after all!

Andre and Nicole’s elopement was a celebration of love, adventure, and the beauty of embracing the unknown. The ever-changing weather, the wild landscapes, and the deep connection between them all came together to create a day that was as unforgettable as it was unique. It was an honour to be part of their journey, and I know the memories we created will be cherished for years to come.

I really hope we can do this again. We will forever pretend that the King’s Guard is chasing us around the green landscapes of Ireland!

xXx
