Norway Elopement Photographer
For a love story with room to feel as big as Norway.
Red cabins under granite walls, Arctic beaches with turquoise water, ceremonies at midnight under a sun that never sets, or under the northern lights. Norway is the quiet giant of elopement destinations, and I’ve had the joy of photographing a wedding here already.

PHOTOGRAPHED WITH FEELING
Norway, exactly as it felt.
Wild weather, quiet glances and the great sweep of the landscape are all allowed to belong in the same story.
THE SHORT ANSWER
Planning a Norway elopement? Most international couples marry legally at home and hold their ceremony in Norway, though tourists can legally marry here with 4 to 8 weeks of paperwork through Skatteetaten. Thanks to Norway’s right to roam ( allemannsretten ), your ceremony can happen on almost any mountain, beach or fjord viewpoint, free, no venue required. Midnight sun runs roughly mid-May to late July; northern lights September to early April.
WHY HERE
Why couples elope to Norway
Norway solves the problem every eloping couple has: you want enormous scenery and
privacy, and most famous places give you one or the other. Here, the right to roam means your ceremony
can legally happen on almost any beach, ridge or fjord-edge, no venue hire, no permission slips, no
audience. Walk twenty minutes in Lofoten and you have an Arctic beach to yourselves.
And the light is unlike anywhere I shoot. In summer above the Arctic Circle
the sun simply doesn’t set, golden hour stretches from 10pm to 2am, which means we can hold your
ceremony at midnight in full, honeyed light. In winter, the same sky trades the sun for the aurora.
I photographed Maggie & Jon’s wedding at Haukeliseter in the southern mountains, canoe on the
lake, peaks behind the ceremony, and I’ve been plotting my way back since.
MORE THAN PHOTOGRAPHS
Find your place. Shape your day. Live every second.
I’m not based in Norway, and I won’t pretend to be. I’m an award-winning destination
elopement photographer, and every year I build my calendar around a handful of far-flung weddings:
Iceland, Norway, and wherever adventurous couples take me. What that means for you:
I plan Norway trips in blocks, so my travel is already largely covered on set dates, and because I’m travelling for your day, you get someone who scouts fresh instead of
running the same three compositions every local shoots. Getting there is simpler than it looks: Oslo or Bergen from the UK/US, a short domestic hop
to Leknes (Lofoten), Ålesund or Tromsø, then Norway’s absurdly scenic roads do the rest. I build Norway
into my travel calendar in blocks, ask for my next dates.

Location ideas shaped around season, light, privacy, access and the kind of experience you want.
02

A flexible plan that protects the feeling of the day while making the most of the landscape and light.

Calm guidance when it helps, then room to forget the camera and be fully present together.

THE SPACE BETWEEN MOMENTS
The photographs should feel as alive as the day did.
Not just the wide views. The hands, weather, movement and fleeting pieces of the story matter too.

Hey, I’m Sharyn.
Light chaser, careful planner and the calm person beside you when the weather changes.

PLANNING AROUND THE LIGHT
Planning around the seasons & the light
Norway is two different elopements depending on the calendar, endless light, or dancing darkness. Both are extraordinary; they just need opposite plans.
SEASON / 01
Midnight sun, mid-May to late July
Above the Arctic Circle (Lofoten, Senja, Tromsø) the sun never sets. Golden hour lasts from
roughly 10pm to 2am, so we flip the day: slow morning, ceremony in the evening, portraits at midnight
in light most photographers wait a year for. It’s also high season, the famous spots need early or
late timing, which the light makes effortless. September to early October is the
insider’s pick: autumn colour, aurora chances beginning, viewpoints empty again.
SEASON / 02
Northern lights, September to early April
From September the aurora returns to northern skies. A winter elopement means snow-dusted
peaks, blue polar twilight, and, on clear nights, vows under green fire. I’ll say what the honest
pages say: the lights are a probability, never a promise. We plan a spectacular day that stands on its
own, keep 2 to 3 flexible evenings for the sky, and treat the aurora as the encore, not the show.
Once you enquire with a date, I build your personal light timeline, sunrise,
golden hour and ceremony timing for your exact spot on your exact day.
Ceremony anywhere, right to roam

The order is a starting point. Exact times are built around your date, location, season and weather.
01
Slow start
Coffee at the rorbu, dress hung by the window, zero rush, our light doesn’t arrive until everyone else’s dinner time.
02
First location
A quiet beach or headland while the day-trippers finish their loops.
03
The ceremony
Vows on a viewpoint with the fjord below, legally yours already, or celebrant-led, exactly as you’ve chosen.
04
Dinner, then back out
A proper meal, a breath, because the best light of the entire day hasn’t started yet.
05
Midnight golden hour
The sun skims the horizon and stays there. Portraits at midnight in light that doesn’t end. This is the Norway photo.

THE PAPERWORK, HONESTLY
Getting married in Norway, symbolic vs. legal
Yes, tourists can legally marry in Norway, the question is whether the paperwork earns its place in your plan. Both answers below.
MOST FLEXIBLE
Legal at home, ceremony in Norway
01 / Zero Norwegian paperwork. Sign legally at your local courthouse, then hold the ceremony that actually counts, on a fjord edge or an Arctic beach.
02 / No 4 to 8 week processing window to plan around; total date flexibility.
03 / Any celebrant or none, you can exchange vows entirely privately.
04 / What most US & UK couples eloping to Norway do.
OPTION / 02
Legal civil marriage in Norway
01 / Foreigners can legally marry, apply for a prøvingsattest (certificate of no impediment to marriage) via Skatteetaten, the Norwegian Tax Administration.
02 / Needs personal declarations, a certificate of no impediment from home (apostilled), passports; visa-free stays (US/UK ≤90 days) qualify.
03 / Processing takes 4 to 8 weeks, build it into your timeline.
04 / Afterwards, get the Norwegian certificate apostilled for recognition at home.

QUESTIONS COUPLES ASK
Norway elopement FAQs
Yes, legally, through Skatteetaten (the Norwegian Tax Administration): you apply for a prøvingsattest with declarations, an apostilled certificate of no impediment from home, and passports; processing takes 4 to 8 weeks, and a visa-free tourist stay qualifies. That said, most American couples sign legally at home and hold their ceremony in Norway, same mountain, none of the admin.
Yes. Norway allows non-residents to marry, provided the Skatteetaten paperwork is completed in advance (allow 4 to 8 weeks) and you have legal stay, the standard 90-day visa-free window covers US and UK visitors. Alternatively, hold a symbolic ceremony with no Norwegian paperwork at all.
Almost anywhere, this is Norway’s superpower. The right to roam (allemannsretten) means beaches, mountains and fjord viewpoints are open to everyone, free, no venue hire or permit needed for a small private ceremony. Very few countries on earth offer that.
For midnight sun and open hiking trails: mid-May to late July. For autumn colour, quiet viewpoints and your first aurora chances: September to early October, my personal pick. For full winter drama and northern lights: November to March, planned around short daylight. Each is a completely different (equally beautiful) wedding.
Maybe, and I’ll never promise otherwise. Roughly September to early April, on clear dark nights in the north, chances are good across a 3 to 4 night stay. We design your day to be spectacular without them and keep evenings flexible; if the sky performs, we go back out, whatever the hour.
No. Some of Norway’s best backdrops, Haukland Beach, Reine, Tungeneset, most fjord viewpoints, are steps from the road. If you want the earned-it feeling of Ryten or Preikestolen, I’m all in; if you want roadside drama in wedding shoes, Norway has endless options.
