WHY COUPLES CHOOSE IT
Why couples choose Portland Manor
Portland is the heritage option, a genuine 1869 manor with the patina to prove it, set on a working farm of gardens, dam and Outeniqua views. The Forest Chapel is the heart of it: open-air, at the water’s edge, trees for a roof. Calvin & Charl’s wedding here moved from that chapel to the Cowshed’s long-table warmth, and the whole day felt rooted in a way new venues can’t fake.
The kitchen matters too, grass-fed lamb, macadamias and produce from the estate’s own garden, plated or spit-braai style under the pepper tree.

THROUGH SHARYN’S LENS
Photographing a wedding at Portland Manor
The dam is Portland’s mirror, the Forest Chapel sits at its edge, so ceremony wides get water, trees and reflection in one frame, and still evenings double the manor across the surface. I shoot the 1869 facade in the last warm light when the old walls glow, and the farm roads give long, honest walking shots between scenes.
It’s a place for unhurried coverage: heritage detail, farm texture, and golden hour over open land.
PLANNING AROUND THE LIGHT
A timeline shaped around your date.
Sunrise and sunset shift throughout the year, so there is no single perfect ceremony time at Portland Manor. I build each timeline around the sunset time on your actual date, the ceremony space, the weather and the dam’s reflections and the old manor’s evening glow.
MAR TO SEP
March – September
The sun sits lower and golden light arrives earlier in the afternoon. Low light reaches the dam early and the manor facade glows by mid-afternoon, earlier chapel ceremonies keep the reflection hour safe.
OCT TO FEB
October – February
Days run long and the light stays strong late. Long evenings favour a later chapel start, with portraits on the farm roads as the light stretches and dinner under the pepper tree after.
YOUR DATE
Your personal timeline
Once your date is confirmed, I work backwards from sunset and create a photography timeline around your ceremony, portraits and reception, with enough flexibility for weather and the unplanned moments that make the day yours.
