Sara & Ryan’s Iceland Waterfall Elopement
Did Sara and Ryan bring the vibes?
THEY BROUGHT THE VIBES.
This beautiful Guyanese-Canadian couple came to Iceland ready for an adventure, and from the moment we started their South Coast Iceland elopement, I knew we were going to have an absolute blast.
There was rain. There was champagne. There were waterfalls, dancing, lupines, South African Zoo biscuits and a whole lot of laughing.
Basically, the perfect Iceland elopement.
Private Vows at Kvernufoss
We started our adventure at Kvernufoss, one of my favourite waterfalls along Iceland’s South Coast.
And guess what?
It rained.
Because… Iceland.
But Sara and Ryan couldn’t have cared less.
They exchanged their private vows beneath Kvernufoss, surrounded by the towering green walls of the canyon and the sound of the waterfall behind them.
And I absolutely loved how personal their vows were. Instead of fancy vow books, they had written them on Sara’s old sketch pads. Those tiny details are what make an elopement completely your own.
Then came the champagne.
Naturally, we attempted a champagne spray powerful enough to rival Kvernufoss itself.
I’m not entirely sure we won.
Dancing Beneath Skógafoss
Next, we headed to the mighty Skógafoss and somehow, once again, we had the entire waterfall to ourselves.
Just let that sink in.
Two of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls, and we had BOTH of them completely to ourselves.
Sara and Ryan ran towards the waterfall, danced in front of it, got soaked and laughed through the whole thing. There was no worrying about dresses getting dirty or hair getting wet.
They simply embraced it.
And those are always the photographs I love most.
The ones where you’re not thinking about the camera anymore.
You’re just having a freaking good time.
Coffee, Zoo Biscuits & Icelandic Lupines
Eventually, we needed to refuel.
We grabbed some coffee from the nearby hotel and I pulled out my emergency stash of South African Zoo biscuits to get the energy levels back up.
Very glamorous Iceland elopement photographer behaviour.
With caffeine and biscuits successfully consumed, we headed towards a field of beautiful Icelandic lupines with Skógafoss behind us.
After the drama of the waterfalls, this part of the shoot felt completely different — soft purple lupines, green landscapes and Sara and Ryan just enjoying being together.
The photographs were absolutely beautiful.
When Iceland Says You’re Done…
Our final plan was to head back towards Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach.
Iceland said no.
The rain came down, the wind picked up and eventually we decided that perhaps Iceland was politely — or not so politely — telling us our adventure was over.
And honestly, we didn’t need anything else.
We had private vows underneath a waterfall. We sprayed champagne. We danced beneath Skógafoss. We laughed until our faces hurt, ate Zoo biscuits and wandered through fields of lupines.
This is exactly what I love about photographing an Iceland elopement.
It isn’t about everything going perfectly.
It’s about finding two people who are willing to embrace the weather, the adventure and whatever Iceland throws at them.
Sara and Ryan, I absolutely LOVED sharing these few hours with you.
You were SUCH FREAKING FUN.
And I really, really hope our paths cross again.
Until we meet again,
S
Planning a South Coast Iceland Elopement
This is exactly why I love photographing elopements in Iceland.
You don’t need perfect weather. You don’t need blue skies. And you definitely don’t need everything to go according to plan.
An Iceland elopement can mean standing alone on Reynisfjara before most people have even woken up, exploring a hidden waterfall canyon and finishing your day absolutely drenched beneath Skógafoss. This is Iceland, it’s RAW, CRAZY, UNPREDICTABLE and yet breathtakingly STUNNING! This landscape will blow your mind!
For couples looking for an adventurous Iceland elopement photographer, the South Coast offers some of the most spectacular landscapes in the country, all within one incredible adventure.
