WHY COUPLES CHOOSE IT

Why couples choose Seeplaas

Some venues have a view; Seeplaas has an entire horizon. The estate looks straight over the bay at Groot Brak, and on a clear day the ocean fills every wide shot I take, I’ve photographed dolphins passing during a couple session here, and in season this stretch of coast is one of the best whale-watching vantage points anywhere.

It works as a whole-weekend venue too. With twelve luxury guest rooms offering sea and mountain views, some of your closest people can stay on the property, while the on-site restaurant and gallery give guests somewhere to be between the ceremony and the party. The estate runs on solar, which in South Africa means one less thing for anyone to worry about on the day.

THROUGH SHARYN’S LENS

Photographing a wedding at Seeplaas

The sea does the heavy lifting here, so I plan the day around when the water looks its best. Afternoon light lands on the terrace and lawns with the bay behind, the classic Seeplaas frame, and the mountain side of the estate glows late in the day when the ocean side starts to cool off. Two backdrops, one venue, no driving.

For portraits I usually work from the gardens down toward the sea, finishing on the terrace as the sun drops. The beach ceremony option changes everything about the timeline. Sand, wind and salt spray are part of the deal and, honestly, they make for my favourite kind of images. Bring a second pair of shoes; you will thank me.

PLANNING AROUND THE LIGHT

A timeline shaped around your date.

Sunrise and sunset shift throughout the year, so there is no single perfect ceremony time at Seeplaas. I build each timeline around the sunset time on your actual date, the ceremony space, the weather and how the light moves off the ocean across the terrace and lawns.

MAR TO SEP

March – September

The sun sits lower and golden light arrives earlier in the afternoon. Golden light reaches the terrace earlier and the sea picks up soft silver tones, ceremonies usually sit earlier in the afternoon, protecting a long portrait window over the bay.
OCT TO FEB

October – February

Days run long and the light stays strong late. Later ceremonies work beautifully, the ocean glare softens toward evening and the terrace holds warm light until well after dinner starts.
YOUR DATE

Your personal timeline

Once your date is confirmed, I work backwards from sunset and create a photography timeline around your ceremony, portraits and reception, with enough flexibility for weather and the unplanned moments that make the day yours.

NEED TO KNOW

Before you book.

A photographer’s answers to the questions couples ask most often about Seeplaas. Venue details and packages can change, so confirm the final information directly.

The estate suits weddings of 40–120 guests, with twelve on-site rooms for the couple and closest family and plenty of accommodation in Groot Brak and Mossel Bay nearby.

Yes, there’s an indoor events venue, and the estate’s interiors and covered spaces photograph well when the coastal weather turns.

Spring and autumn bring the most settled coastal weather. Winter has a hidden bonus: whale season on this stretch of coast, and soft low light over the bay all afternoon.

Yes, the beach chapel setting is one of Seeplaas’s signatures. It changes the timeline and the logistics (wind, sand, tides), which I plan around with you from the start.

ALREADY IMAGINING IT?

Getting married at Seeplaas?

I’ve photographed two weddings at Seeplaas, I know where the sea light lands in the afternoon and how to time the terrace for the good hour. I’d love to be your photographer here.
