Photographing Melanie and Berno has been a journey that has spanned years, and it was an absolute joy to capture yet another milestone in their lives. From their surprise engagement on Robberg in 2018 to their beautiful wedding at Keurboomstrand in 2019, I’ve had the privilege of documenting their love story. Now, with the arrival of their little one, Franco, I was honoured to be there once again, this time for a newborn shoot at the very place where their wedding memories were made—Keurboomstrand.
The morning of the shoot was marked by a cloudy sunrise, with the soft light filtering through the overcast sky, creating a serene and gentle atmosphere. Keurboomstrand, with its sweeping shoreline and tranquil waves, felt like the perfect setting to welcome Franco into the world. The quiet beauty of the beach, combined with the tender moments shared by Melanie and Berno, made for an unforgettable session.
It was incredible to see how Melanie and Berno’s love has grown over the years. Watching them interact with their newborn son, it was clear that the bond they share has only deepened. They still look at each other with the same adoration I saw on their wedding day, if not more. Their connection, now strengthened by the arrival of Franco, was evident in every smile, every touch, and every glance.
The joy and pride they felt as new parents were palpable. Franco, just a few weeks old, was the star of the show, and his parents couldn’t have been more doting. Capturing the gentle way they held him, the way they looked at him with pure love in their eyes, was a reminder of the beauty of new beginnings.
Despite the early hour and the cloudy weather, the session was filled with laughter and warmth. Melanie and Berno have always had a playful side, and it was wonderful to see that this hasn’t changed with the arrival of Franco. Whether it was cuddling their little one, sharing a laugh over the small joys of parenthood, or simply enjoying the peacefulness of the beach, the session was a celebration of love in all its forms.
It was a privilege to document this new chapter in their lives. Watching Melanie and Berno evolve from an engaged couple to newlyweds, and now to parents, has been a beautiful journey. The images we captured during this sunrise session at Keurboomstrand are a testament to the enduring love they share and the joy that comes with welcoming a new life into the world.
